The Gift of Love

As Valentines Day approaches we consider the joy of having loving relationships in our lives. We all want to find that special someone, and once that time comes, to live together happily for life. At least that is the ideal. But love comes in so many varieties and flavors. We dream of becoming carried away by it, imagining an ecstatic wave of joy in our hearts. But to define this all-encompassing desire for love inside us seems almost impossible.
The ancient Vedic culture of India gave varying names for different kinds of love, as did the Greeks. The Greeks actually had as many as thirty different words to describe shared love, but seven were most prominent.

Bhakti Yoga

Agape to the Greeks or Maitri for the Hindus, meant the love we have for all others in the world, like when we feel compassion for people suffering due to a lack of basic resources, war or natural disasters. It brings a desire to be charitable to others that we have never met, just on the basis of being part of one extended family. Agape was also the Greek word used for love for God. In ancient India the word Bhakti was used for such transcendental love, love that can only be for and shared with the Supreme Lord of all creation. I feel it is no accident that Bhakti Yoga is now experiencing resurgence, especially among the younger population.

Love of a Parent

Love of a Parent

Storge to the Greeks, or vatsalya for the Hindus, meant love within the immediate, or extended, family. It is the love of a parent for their children, grandchildren, adopted children, uncle or other relations that is special because of family ties. This is why healthy family love is so important in our emotional growth and wellbeing. Something that is severely lacking in today’s disjointed, and often lonely world.
Pragma in Greece, or Preyo in India, is the love that endures the test of time. This is love that develops over time, such as that between a married couple that stays together through thick and thin. Or, perhaps the love that we feel for an old friend, caring for them when they have trouble later in life.

Self love or self esteem

Philautia to the Greeks, or Svabhista in India, is self-love, or self-respect. Not in the sense of being vain or narcissistic, but that caring love to do right by ourselves, that gives us our principles, values and strength. This in turn then allows us to care for others. This is another love that is lacking in today’s society. Often, if others have not loved us, we find it hard to even like ourselves, let alone love ourselves.

Working as a team

Philia to the Greeks, or Prita in ancient India, is the love that we share with others when we cooperate to achieve something, like with our co-workers, other players on the same sports team, or soldiers in a unit of the armed forces. We may call it camaraderie, but it is love all the same. Ask any soldier returning form war, how strongly they feel about the men or women on their unit. It is indeed, a very strong, special love.

Ludus is actually a Roman term, madhurya in India, for the love that we flirt or play when we meet someone we’re attracted to, the feelings in the heart (and stomach) that often brings a strong sense of euphoria.

Strong sexual desire

Eros to the Greeks, or Shringara to the ancient Vedic civilization, is the love that most of us think of and wish to stoke the fires of, on Valentines Day. It is romantic, and erotic. Carried on the winds of imagination, its magnetism brings our sexual desires to the forefront of our minds and bodies. The Greeks actually considered eros as dangerous and irrational, it could take hold of and possess you. Let this be food for thought.

There is no feeling, sensation or thought that can compare to the sheer joy of sharing love with another. It is an affair of the heart, and as we call upon our heart’s vast resources with which to love we find that as we give more love, we get more love in return. The more loving we become with others, the more love we have to give. Rather than becoming depleted of love we become nourished and filled with it!
For love is the true ground upon which we live; it is the only environment that any of us truly desire. It should be shared with everyone on some level, creating an environment of peace and joy. We naturally think of being more caring with those we know, that are in our circle of friends and family. But to exercise those same heart muscles with other souls outside this circle will not only bring more light into their lives, but it increases our own.

A smile for someone you don’t know, helping a distressed animal,

Caring for a distressed animal

giving in charity in a way that you become emotionally involved, or a hug for someone that’s feeling lost and alone, will bring feelings of joyfulness to the heart. The more we share love with others, the more love fills and overflows our hearts. When we give of our hearts freely the realization comes that we are all a part of one big family.
For the most intimate of personal relationships having synastry between you on a soul level is essential. Being able to see the arrangement of the heavens at the time of the persons’ birth will tell the tale. When we use an accurate Vedic horoscope, we can see right away if there is enough compatibility (synastry) for the marriage to be successful. Not only that, but we can look at the future career and social statuses of the couple, as well. We all want to meet with success, and knowing the synastry between you can make the difference between having a fulfilling marriage and home life, or not.
So this Valentine’s Day plan for that special event, dinner or night out with your special someone, but don’t forget to call Mom, or Dad. For that one day resolve to express only warmth and kindness, try to keep a smile on your lips whenever you see anyone and try to feel yourself as part of one Earth family. Not only will you have one of the best days of your lives, you’ll realize forever more that love really is all we need. If we have that, then the world looks bright. For to love and be loved, is life’s greatest gift. Happy Valentine’s Day!

6 Reasons Why You Should Get A Relationship Compatibility

Recent statistics show that in the United States 53 percent of first time marriages end in divorce, 67 percent of second marriages end with divorce and 74 percent of third time marriages end in divorce. Business partners aren’t doing much better, with 60 percent of business partnerships also ending in “divorce”, which is often far more ugly and expensive than a divorce from a marriage of intimacy. It would be so much easier if you knew your potential partner to be, either business or love partners, much more intimately. What if you knew how they thought, what their dreams and aspirations were, what made them “tick”? Well, you can know ALL about them when you have a compatibility astrology reading done.

1. Learn about your partners strengths and weaknesses
If a person thinks they can “change” a prospective partner, they are mistaken. A person may allow himself or herself to be told, pushed or bullied, but this only leads to resentment and dissatisfaction in the relationship. Finding out about their strength and weaknesses first and knowing you can live with them is far better.

2. Make sure there is a strong basis for love and affection

Generally, when two people meet and have a strong attraction for one another and are considering a more permanent relationship, there is already some love and affection. But, being life partners is not always easy and simple, as we humans are emotional beings, and at times, life can throw us a curve ball. Will that love sustain these not so easy times?

3. How do they communicate?
Some of us have no problem revealing our minds, while others, well lets let’s say aren’t as ready to share, or do not know how to share. The KEY to a successful relationship lies in the communication. We may not be able to change our mental capacity or personality, but it is an effective tool for life relationships in general if you are willing to learn good communication skills.

4. Do you REALLY like similar things?

Yes, it is true, your and your partners chart can show what it is in life that interests them. They may like the outdoors, sports and athletics and you may like to stay home and read. This works for some people, but long term? Will they want children? Will they want a career and never be home?

5. For a sexual partnership are you sexually compatible?

This is very important, especially if you want the “right” sexual partner. We all have different needs and desires and it helps if your partner is well matched. If one has lots of sexual energy and the other does not, it can cause all sorts of problems. This sometimes does not show itself until later on in the relationship; as to start with both parties have that initial “lust” for one another.

6. Will you make good friends?
Yes, friends. You should AWLAYS marry you best friend. The love of a friend will last through your entire life, through the ups and downs, when the passion had subsided. You know what is inside each other’s mind and heart. You Vedic astrology charts will show this.

The above can all pertain to any relationship, including a business partner, except for number 5 of course! Unless you life partner is your business partner! So why are you waiting? Order a compatibility reading right now!

So Is Any Marriage Made in Heaven?
Are any marriages really made in heaven? From my experience counseling many couples over the years I have found that there are two factors for creating a healthy and long-lasting marriage, or business partnership. The first is compatibility. Without enough compatibility between two people the marriage or partnership will always fail. The thinking processes will be too different for it to last. The second is possessing relationship skills, a big part of which is empathy, consideration and a willingness to listen to your partner when he or she speaks (not just sometimes, but all of the time) and to work through challenges as a team.
With both of those factors in place a marriage, or business partnership, will work. As a matter of fact it was proven that the old type of traditional arranged marriages, as always used to take place in India, had a far greater success rate than so-called “love marriages” anywhere else in the world. Until the late 20th century divorce was so rare in India that couples really and truly lived the words, which we utter in the west as marriage vows, “until death do us part”. But what was it that made so many Indian arranged marriages work out in the past, as opposed to those in the US? It’s such an important topic that even Oprah Winfrey once devoted a show to it. Their considerations went far deeper than the rest of the world when it came to choosing a life partner. Far deeper than anyone could possibly know without the aid of a divine science, and that science was and still is Vedic Astrology.
When we use a horoscope for matching a prospective couple we can see right away if there is enough compatibility for the marriage to be successful. Not only that, but we can look at the future career and social statuses of the couple, as well. So many marriages break up because of arguing about money, or because they can’t stand particular actions of their partner any longer. This kind of primary consideration before marriage can save a lot of tears, heartache and money, for that matter. No matter how good it felt at the time, would you still marry someone if you knew it wasn’t going to last, that you or the other person was going to change irrevocably?

Already Married? Not Too Late!
And what about those of us that are already married and suffering due to marital problems caused by constant conflict? Having in depth readings of your own horoscopes, and then having an experienced and knowledgeable Vedic astrologer help you both understand each other better may well be what you need to turn things around at home.
I’ve counseled many people using Vedic Astrology in the past 30 plus years and I can tell you honestly that we’re not all that different from each other. Everyone simply wants to feel happy, or satisfied with life, and most importantly we cannot live without sharing love with others. Take a little puppy, put him in a room alone with lots of toys, food, water and treats, but nobody to share love with…and he will wither and die.
We are not just seekers of sensual pleasures, as we are trained by society to think. We are really seeking love above all else, and when we find that state of being called love…we never want it to end.
And what of the pain of dealing with a love lost. No other event in life causes us such deep emotional anguish as does divorce or losing a loved one at the time of their death. The latter is a natural part of life, but divorce is not. Therefore it behooves us to do our best to insure that our marriages and partnerships will succeed.
Marriage is one of the singly most important events in any person’s life. As the consequences of an uninformed decision going into marriage can spell disaster, it only makes sense that we should try to understand as much as possible about ourselves, and our prospective partner, before we take the plunge. We can then better create the strong foundation necessary for a happy, and prosperous business relationship, or both.

Whether you have been with a partner for years, considering tying the knot, or thinking of going into business with someone, it only makes good sense to have a compatibility consultation with me. You will know what you are going into and how to proceed. I am here to help you. Self-Discovery: Letting the stars light the way… Jen Gordon Halfstack Media

Shaking up your astrological view!
You really aren’t alone … Every time you check your horoscope or discuss the meaning of life with your friends over a bottle of Pinot Noir. You, like many are looking for meaning and answers.

Even in ancient times, dating back as far as 15,000 to 20,000 years, we humans were interested in the meaning of existence and why we are here. Great studies and sciences have been developed to study our outer and inner worlds and how they relate to one another.

Are you interested in discovering more deeply about yourself and your place in this world? Maybe you have read spiritual books to help you learn more, or have purchased a psychic reading or tried meditation to navigate your way?

A very interesting spiritual tool that I came across recently is called Indian Astrology, also known as Jyotish, or what is referred to in our western world as Vedic astrology.
Vedic astrology originated from the Vedic Scriptures, it is a universal and timeless healing tool, and is known as one of the most time-tested and oldest systems of astrology in the world.

I learned of such a tool when I came across Vedic Astrologer, Howard Beckman, covering his extraordinary story of strength in a previous column. Howard overcame a heroin addiction, drug trafficking, and a 2.5 year Thai prison sentence to then move on and heal his life. Rising like a phoenix from the flames he transformed into a very gifted spiritual teacher.

I knew I personally had hit lows, but this guy had beaten even the toughest of odds …. I had to learn more about his teachings…

So, on a fall day at a busy Starbucks, I found a quiet corner and received a powerful and exciting Vedic Astrology reading from Howard. First, he began with a contextual and pertinent ‘overview’ of Vedic astrology.

He then quickly turned my astrological world upside down when I came to realize that in Vedic astrology I was an entirely different sun sign than I was taught to this point. And to top it off, I was a totally different moon sign too. Like astronomers, Vedic astrologers use actual astronomy as its basis.

I have to say, I loved this information! I had never really identified with my western astrological sign, and as Howard walked me through my different personality traits, gifts, as well as a few of my challenges, it really began to resonate.

Not only does Howard take you through the basics of “you” as you may or may not know it. He goes through your life time-line and points out pertinent energetic themes present. His insights act as almost a cosmic GPS or guidance system to help navigate the sequential segments of your life.

I found this to be extremely helpful in planning my future goals and dreams, and more importantly check if what I was thinking and feeling about my life was in line with what he saw. He offered suggestions about my health and diet that were also interesting and intuitive.

If you are curious about Vedic astrology, or you are looking for confirmation and answers about your path and the life path of those you love, make sure you look Howard Beckman up. He will turn your understanding of astrology upside down with an intuitive, powerful and helpful view into you and your world! Hope For The New Year 2016

It’s that time of year again. Here we are at the end of another year, which seems to have flown by, and getting ready for the next. We all hope for a good year ahead. “Good” to most means a comfortable living situation, no lacking in the necessities of life and opportunities for experiencing pleasure in our lives. Yet there’s an air of apprehension today.
The world is in turmoil and as every day passes we see more people displaced from their homes, forced to migrate into the unknown and all simply to find a situation where they can live peacefully, to find a home where they can have the opportunities in life that the multifarious warring parties have stolen from them.
Although I see a continuation of violence, both abroad, and within our borders to a lesser degree, the New Moon charts are giving me hope. The USA will certainly prevail this year. The political blood lust for power amongst the various parties will have our government flexing its muscles…with devastating consequences for those living in fear in war torn countries.
After all, it’s an election year. Both of the political parties must try to show the people that they are capable of bringing security to the population, both in terms of protection from terror and crime, as well as stimulating a sluggish economy.
Though the means that allows them to create an illusion of prosperity will have the result of scarcity down the road, the economy will indeed become stronger, at least in some sectors.
But the greatest hope that I see for 2016 is that I expect more and more people to question the dry, tasteless and unpalatable philosophy of “work harder, spend more money” and you will become happy. That’s what our leaders imply, don’t they? When the economy is churning along the news reporters tell us how great everything is, and when the economy is depressed we’re told to be afraid. Our happiness and distress depends on the state of the economy, pure and simple! That is what they would have us believe.
But anybody with the slightest bit of thoughtfulness will realize, if they carefully consider this unholy philosophy, that our inner hearts and minds can never be satisfied with “things”. But the bulk of the populace mindlessly and thoughtlessly accept this philosophy of life blaring at them through the television.
In this year more people are going to raise their heads out above the fog and ask themselves, their “higher” selves, for a better way. We will begin to see an ever-growing movement to retreat to a simpler lifestyle. As Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada said, “Simple living and higher thinking nurtures the path to both material satisfaction and spiritual realization.
The “Back to the Land” movement will grow exponentially in popularity as people begin to realize that this hard, unending struggle for existence in an environment that completely stress us out is not only unnecessary, but it reduces our life span, while it completely negates any bit of pleasure we might find along the way.
The pleasure and pain, happiness and distress, and ups and downs of our lives are the result of what we have “earned” in our previous “roles” in life. As Shakespeare said “All the world is a stage and all the people merely players”. Our identities outwardly change with each succeeding birth that we take in the world, but inwardly we are the same. Yet our true identity is covered.
So in this year I see that many persons are going to all of a sudden feel like they’ve awakened. As if they never really saw themselves and the world for what it truly is before. Those persons are going to begin their search for reality in great earnest. Churches and temples that are welcoming will find that more inquisitive seekers will cross their thresholds. Spiritual groups of all persuasion will see a resurgence in their membership.
This year holds an opportunity for us all. An opportunity to make changes in our lives, in our very consciousness, that will allow us to at least understand what we want in life and most importantly what we do NOT want. Knowledge, my friends, is what we all desire. Knowledge of ourselves, the universe and how to find that elusive state of consciousness called “peace of mind”. But to begin to find the truth we have to use all the tools at our disposal…and to stop accepting the material philosophy that is used to control our minds, and thus our very lives.
I will leave you with a word-for-word reprint of the very poignant words spoken in a movie called “Network” from 1976.

Howard Beale: I don’t have to tell you things are bad. Everybody knows things are bad. It’s a depression. Everybody’s out of work or scared of losing their job. The dollar buys a nickel’s worth, banks are going bust, shopkeepers keep a gun under the counter. Punks are running wild in the street and there’s nobody anywhere who seems to know what to do, and there’s no end to it. We know the air is unfit to breathe and our food is unfit to eat, and we sit watching our TV’s while some local newscaster tells us that today we had fifteen homicides and sixty-three violent crimes, as if that’s the way it’s supposed to be. We know things are bad – worse than bad. They’re crazy. It’s like everything everywhere is going crazy, so we don’t go out anymore. We sit in the house, and slowly the world we are living in is getting smaller, and all we say is, ‘Please, at least leave us alone in our living rooms. Let me have my toaster and my TV and my steel-belted radials and I won’t say anything. Just leave us alone.’ Well, I’m not gonna leave you alone. I want you to get mad! I don’t want you to protest. I don’t want you to riot – I don’t want you to write to your congressman because I wouldn’t know what to tell you to write. I don’t know what to do about the depression and the inflation and the Russians and the crime in the street. All I know is that first you’ve got to get mad. You’ve got to say, ‘I’m a HUMAN BEING, God damn it! My life has VALUE!’ So I want you to get up now. I want all of you to get up out of your chairs. I want you to get up right now and go to the window. Open it, and stick your head out, and yell, ‘I’M AS MAD AS HELL, AND I’M NOT GOING TO TAKE THIS ANYMORE!’ I want you to get up right now, sit up, go to your windows, open them and stick your head out and yell – ‘I’m as mad as hell and I’m not going to take this anymore!’ Things have got to change. But first, you’ve gotta get mad!… You’ve got to say, ‘I’m as mad as hell, and I’m not going to take this anymore!’ Then we’ll figure out what to do about the depression and the inflation and the oil crisis. But first get up out of your chairs, open the window, stick your head out, and yell, and say it: “I’M AS MAD AS HELL, AND I’M NOT GOING TO TAKE THIS ANYMORE!”

Arthur Jensen: You have meddled with the primal forces of nature, Mr. Beale, and I won’t have it! Is that clear? You think you’ve merely stopped a business deal. That is not the case! The Arabs have taken billions of dollars out of this country, and now they must put it back! It is ebb and flow, tidal gravity! It is ecological balance! You are an old man who thinks in terms of nations and peoples. There are no nations. There are no peoples. There are no Russians. There are no Arabs. There are no third worlds. There is no West. There is only one holistic system of systems, one vast and immane, interwoven, interacting, multivariate, multinational dominion of dollars. Petro-dollars, electro-dollars, multi-dollars, reichmarks, rins, rubles, pounds, and shekels. It is the international system of currency which determines the totality of life on this planet. That is the natural order of things today. That is the atomic and subatomic and galactic structure of things today! And YOU have meddled with the primal forces of nature, and YOU… WILL… ATONE! Am I getting through to you, Mr. Beale? You get up on your little twenty-one inch screen and howl about America and democracy. There is no America. There is no democracy. There is only IBM, and ITT, and AT&T, and DuPont, Dow, Union Carbide, and Exxon. Those are the nations of the world today. What do you think the Russians talk about in their councils of state, Karl Marx? They get out their linear programming charts, statistical decision theories, minimax solutions, and compute the price-cost probabilities of their transactions and investments, just like we do. We no longer live in a world of nations and ideologies, Mr. Beale. The world is a college of corporations, inexorably determined by the immutable bylaws of business. The world is a business, Mr. Beale. It has been since man crawled out of the slime. And our children will live, Mr. Beale, to see that… perfect world… in which there’s no war or famine, oppression or brutality. One vast and ecumenical holding company, for whom all men will work to serve a common profit, in which all men will hold a share of stock. All necessities provided, all anxieties tranquilized, all boredom amused. And I have chosen you, Mr. Beale, to preach this evangel.
Howard Beale: Why me?
Arthur Jensen: Because you’re on television, dummy. Sixty million people watch you every night of the week, Monday through Friday.

How we will fare in this year individually depends on our own personal circumstances. Whatever we’ve earned in life comes back to us, for that is the law of karma. But I see a great opening for those that want to find their inner hearts in this year. For anyone desiring to make a change in life, this is the time. Don’t wait any longer.

Have faith. With faith all things are possible. But we must listen very hard, strain our inner ear to hear the calling of our heart. And with knowledge of and faith in our destiny we can push forward. As Mahatma Gandhi once said, we can “be the change you wish to see in the world”.

If you are MAD AS HELL and would like to discuss it with me over your astrological consult, then contact me on Howard@howardbeckman.com or order on line at http://www.howardbeckmanvedicastrologer.com/consultations.html
Happy New Year

Happy Winter Solstice 2015

Doesn’t it seem like each year flies by just a little more quickly than the last one? The days are getting shorter and the nights are drawing in. Here we are closing in on the winter solstice and the Christmas and New Year holidays again, saying farewell to 2015, and ushering in our hopes for a better year ahead.
What a year it has been. Millions of refugees fleeing war torn countries and the constant threat of terrorists raging war, with no rules to go by. I know from my readings for clients throughout the year, it has also been a difficult year for many of you. This time always makes us think about the past year or years and what, perhaps, we could have done differently if we had had the chance. Whether or not we perceive the coming year as a good one will depend on our mental equilibrium, first and foremost. But of course our karma will determine what material facility avails itself to us, and what satisfaction we find in relationships and the unfolding of events. We are also subject to the global karma of the planet’s populace, shall we say, and the political turmoil trying to tear away at the very fabric of all societies worldwide.
I have not seen countries’ charts like those to come for 2016, indicating so many challenges that include great violence, destruction and loss of life caused completely by the actions of men, for many years. The economy won’t go under, but some are going to get hit pretty hard. Others are going to prosper. It must be obvious to all of you reading this that with the events unfolding in the middle east, and the backlash bringing terrorism to the doorsteps of both Americans and Europeans, that things are going to get a lot worse before they get better. And this war is, and shall be, the most insane of any ever to befall us in modern history.
If you have read my latest book “Tempting the Devil In The Name Of God”, you will know that I too have had my lows, but with steadfast spiritual knowledge and the help of Vedic Astrology I was able to survive, learn and grow from my experiences. Let me help you, as others have helped me in the past. A comprehensive astrological analysis is a phenomenal guide for making important decisions, be it in the coming year or years. We can have confidence in knowing that whatever life throws at us, the experience and wisdom given to us thousands of years ago by the very embodiment of wisdom, the seers and yogis of Ancient India, will give us forewarning so as to deal with it. Call, or email, me and we can set up an appointment.

Many have asked if I will post the New Moon charts for the US, UK and other countries after the New Year. My answer is that I do not plan to do so publicly, but in every single reading we will look carefully at what events I see transpiring and whether or not, or how much, you will be affected by these events.
We live in interesting times, and we’re just going to have to get used to it. For many it is time for a new path, or at least a new direction within the old one. Evaluate everything in your life and look for ways to improve your life, so that you may grow into the best possible version of your own self possible.
Remember that we always have hope. By looking forward to a brighter future, we develop enough faith in ourselves, and in the possibilities around us, to succeed in our worldly endeavors. And there’s nothing like a good dose of knowledge to give us an edge in making the right decisions to achieve our goals in life, learning to balance our material desires with our spiritual ones.
Happy Holidays to everyone and may you have the hope, faith and determination to create both material, and spiritual, prosperity in the coming year and always.

2015 New Moon Chart USA

The yearly new Moon chart began on the spring equinox this year, March 20th at 5:36 AM, cast in Washington, D.C. Capricorn rises, with Saturn, ruler of the ascendant, in the 11th house in Scorpio. This is, of course, a sign ruled by the planet of war, Mars.
Without question the US will be involved in inflicting heavy damage and casualties upon its enemies and will be successful in its missions. Rahu in the 9th house also indicates a hawkish attitude will be taken by Congress, as well as the White House.
I believe that the warning of terrorist activity aimed at US civilians is a very real threat. Jupiter exalted in Cancer in the 7th house indicates that the US will forge new partnerships, temporary though these alliances may be, to achieve mutual aims against a common enemy. But being that this exalted Jupiter is also an enemy to the lord of the ascendant, Saturn, and directly aspecting the ascendant, the fanatical religionists will also gain further fervor. This makes the threat from ISIL and others to wage jihad amongst the civilian population of western countries a very real possibility.
The country will also profit financially this year, so those that have job security will be fine, and for the entrepreneurial business people, plenty of opportunities will be there for financial profit.
I know what the doomsday financial people keep saying about the stock market collapsing this year, as well as the dollar, but I simply don’t see it. Not this year anyway. Saturn also rules the 2nd house, whose most acknowledged category is the earning potential of the citizens. With Mercury, ruler of the 9th house of good fortune here, as well as the lord of both the ascendant and the 2nd house Saturn being in the 11th house of gains, I hardly think this shall be a combination for financial catastrophe in the short term.
This year the Sun and Moon are in the 3rd house, along with Ketu and Mars. Such a combination portends more unusual weather. Extremes in temperature, unusual amounts of rain and snow in some places, as well as drought in others, seem to be a theme for some time to come. It also gives further credence to there being struggles within both the government, as well as enemies among the population, giving an indication to further lend weight to my assertion that we may soon begin to see violence against American citizens here at home.
Saving the most positive placement in this chart for last, we have Venus in Aries (yes, Mars’ sign so a further indication of violence and war), but here he is extremely benefic in the 4th house. Venus creates a raja yoga here and by his aspect a raja yoga in the 10th house of status, as well. This means that no matter that some are saying the US is losing its power and influence abroad, that’s not the fact looking at this year’s chart. America will have a lot of influence abroad. Obviously I’m not commenting on this as to being a good thing, or not, just the fact that America will accomplish some short- term goals.
This yoga also portends well for the finances of many in the country. However, unless this is accompanied by some profit sharing with the workers of these businesses, the CEOs of big business will continue to score record profits, while the common worker’s salary hardly budges.
In many other countries’ charts I also noted increased participation in violence. Many in Europe have Gemini rising this year showing political wrangling with the Pisces planets in the 10th house. Some major struggles will be going on not just within Russia (Cancer ascendant putting Pisces planets in the 9th and Mercury in the 8th), but also in China (Leo ascendant putting the 4 planets in Pisces in the 8th house). It’s going to be an interesting year.
Frankly, there are going to come some major disasters (both financial and natural disasters), not just in this year, but over the next 5 years or so. What matters most to us as individuals is how they affect ourselves, you families, friends, etc. A personal astrological consultation will show that. As I always say, in bad times some people do very well, and even in bad times those that are spiritually directed weather the storm in peace.

2013 and the Last Hurrah!

2013 and the Last Hurrah!
When I wrote my article last February entitled Astrological Predictions for the World in 2013 I knew there’s be a great fanfare by the “powers that be” saying they’d begun to bring the economy back. The second house planets showed so much concentration on money, and indeed the wealthy have done extremely well this year. The stock markets have mostly been up and thanks to their ability to print money there has been this renaissance, but it certainly hasn’t changed life economically for we 99%, has it? All an illusion put forward to keep us mushroom people eating manure while kept in constant darkness.
My conjecture that Saturn’s position in this year’s new Moon chart meant the US would be playing the heavy in international politics and more was made all too obvious by the revelations brought to the table by the NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden. I also felt that the planetary arrangement spelled a huge fall in confidence in the US president Barack Obama. I doubt anyone would argue the validity of that prediction by now. Saturn and Rahu’s conjunction certainly created the explosive conflicts and storms, as well.
In my blog 2013, A Year that will Remain Etched in our Memories posted on the blogs on both www.vedicworld.org and www.howardbeckmanvedicastrologer.com I described the astronomical configurations that were about to create major discord and increased violence in the Middle East. We also saw that the exact Rahu and Saturn conjunction in September increased violence and all sorts of natural disasters beginning beforehand and still manifesting for a good month afterwards.
But the last few months of this year and the first quarter of 2014 still hold a few surprises. We’ve had this very malefic combination of Saturn and Rahu for some time now, but things really get ramped up when Mars enters Libra to reside with these other malefic planets that are his dire enemies! Being an air sign expect there to be storms that will cause widespread turmoil and a winter that is colder than it’s been for some years. This winter won’t be a benign one; you can count on that!
On the first of March 2014 Mars will go retrograde in Libra, where he will have been sitting along with enemies Saturn and Rahu. I expect more turbulent weather, along with regional conflicts further escalating for the following 6 weeks or so.
What will it bring for you and I? That depends entirely on our own horoscopes, but we shall all be affected by the upheavals around us in some way or another. Actions begun during this time must be done extremely carefully, with much forethought. Otherwise it will be very easy to begin something at a time when it cannot possibly succeed.
As to the rest of 2014 into early 2015 it will be a year to remember (yes, once again!), but there are some extremely bright lights shining at the end of that tunnel. Instead of waiting until March to make my annual predictions based on the 2014 new Moon charts of the US and other countries, look for it either at the end of this year or very early in the new one. As I always say “to be forewarned is to be forearmed” and the cautions, as well as times to let loose and just go for it, will be detailed in my next newsletter.
We wish everyone a thoughtful Thanksgiving this month and a peaceful December holiday season. Namaste!

Been Feeling a bit down these days? Blame it on the Planets!

So many of us have been feeling these intense emotional “waves” during 2013, especially in the past few months or so. Many more clients than usual are confiding in me that they’re worried they’re becoming depressed by it all. Yet although some have tragedies or trials and tribulations they can point to as the catalysts, others are simply feeling low and can’t put their finger on the reasons why.
Well, you really can blame it on the planets this time, at least for a great many. When malefic planets like Saturn or Mars become powerful they increase the potencies of negative forces. However, at this time we have several combinations of planetary influences that together are affecting our collective minds and emotions quite heavily.
Saturn has been very powerful for a few years now, being exalted in the sign of Libra, ruled by Venus. Rahu joined him here in the beginning of this year, thus promising to instigate trouble in many individuals’ lives, and globally further instigating fighting, unusual storms, etc. Although the exact degree of conjunction was last week, it will still be a negative force for trouble until Rahu moves into Virgo in July of 2014.
Recently Mars also moved into Cancer, his weakest sign of debilitation, causing epic storms and floods. Unfortunately it is also a house position that allows Mars to cast his malefic aspect onto Saturn, while at the same time it also allows Saturn to cast his malefic aspect onto Mars. Both are great malefics and in this instance portend much evil in the world. Venus is also here now with Saturn and Rahu, and in less than a week Mercury will also join the party in Libra.
This is not great for relationships, so keep your cool in communicating with your significant other. This goes for business partnerships, too, so maintain diplomacy in all of your dealings. Although Venus will have moved to Scorpio by the 17th of October, the Sun will now enter Libra. There he finds three enemies, Saturn, Rahu and Mercury, all putting pressure on the situation. The one mitigating factor is Jupiter’s benefic aspect coming from his position in Gemini.
We may not have had the biggest hurricane season, but the fun’s not quite over yet. There will still be violence ongoing, storms and shake-ups on the planet to test your equanimity. And Venus’s sojourn into Scorpio won’t help on the relationship scene much, either. As even before Sun moves into Libra with his enemies, Mars moves into Leo. Here he becomes very powerful and now casts his aspect with renewed strength and vigor directly onto Venus. Watch your emotions, don’t let yourself become angry and put a “disconnect switch” between your mind and your tongue! Better not to say everything you are thinking, as you will regret it. Tempers and emotions will very easily flare up, causing unnecessary arguments and fights.
So, how does all this affect you as an individual? Those with planets in Libra, Cancer, Capricorn and Aries are feeling it heavily for sure, but not only there. The affectations run the gamut of the zodiac and the only way to see which planetary influences will be great forces for gain, change, or problems, for us individually is to have a personal astrological consultation. “To be forewarned is to be forearmed!”

2013, The Year That Will Remain Etched In Our Memories

Flood and Tropical Storms in 2013

The second half of 2013 promises to be one we will not soon forget. Mars has been responsible for so many conflicts this year, but soon it is to become even more troublesome for many in the world. There have been a plethora of comets seen in this year already, which are actually very bad omens. They portend wars, great storms bringing mass flooding and other natural disasters.
At the time of this writing in the middle of July, we have Mars conjunct Jupiter and Sun in Gemini, as well as with the lord of the sign Mercury. Much planning for further civil unrest and escalation of armed (and unarmed) struggles against political/governmental forces is taking place. Yet at the same time there’s an upsurge in the creative work of artists and writers.
Knowledge and information, a key category of the sign Gemini and under the purview of Mercury to disseminate such

NSA Leak Fallout

information, is reaching the eyes and ears of people all over the planet. Wikileaks founder Julian Assange started the outpouring of information about the US and other governments’ covert activities that is astounding the world. Bradley Manning is now paying the price for his revelations. Edward Snowden’s release of documents damning the activities of US government agencies such as the NSA in front of the world is confounding the once trusting public, as well as countries considered to be allies of the USA.
The conflicts in the Middle East are about to spill over even further. There are so many ominous warnings from the planets that there will be tragedies occurring one after another this year. For at least half of each month the “serpent curse” called “Kalasarpa yoga” has been in effect since early May, and will continue until the second week of September. This occurs when all of the 7 major planets are sandwiched between Rahu and Ketu (also known as Dragon’s Head and Dragon’s Tail), the north and south nodes of the Moon. During these months the Moon moves out for half the month, giving a short break to this yoga’s malevolence.
As we pass the first of August Jupiter, Mars and Mercury remain in Gemini, but Sun has moved to Cancer and Venus to Leo. Expect tropical storms to begin to gather powerfully in our oceans. But it is Mars’ move to Cancer, his weakest sign of debilitation, on the 18th of August that shifts these energies
into a higher gear.
Mars is not only extremely malefic and harmful in Cancer, he will now cast a full aspect upon his great enemy Saturn, who is and has been exalted (thus extremely powerful) in the sign of Libra. Saturn will now also cast a full aspect upon his great enemy Mars, meaning the further unfolding of events that will cause suffering in the world.
September 1st signals the coming of the worst of it. Sun and Mercury both reside in Leo at this time, and the potency of Venus to soften the situation is rendered practically null by Venus’ tenanting of Virgo, his weakest sign of debilitation. The piece de resistance will be the exact conjunction of Rahu and Saturn in the early morning of the 17th of September at 40 minutes past midnight.

Middle East Violence

I expect financial markets to teeter, and along with storms, volcanoes and earthquakes in the mix, increasing violence worldwide, quite possibly at times of almost epic proportions. By year’s end things will have calmed down somewhat, hopefully changing the perspectives of at least some people in the world for the better.
What good can come from all of this? Hopefully more people will wake up and look deeply for some real meaning in their lives. Our individual lifetimes here in this world are short, but for most of us it is only when we do reincarnate that we have a chance to make further spiritual advancement, and to realize eternal spiritual truths that are the same for all of us.
Although this summer season will be a wild ride, we can take it as an inspiration to become what we really wish to be, happy and peaceful, even in the face of adversity or the midst of chaos. So open up the copies of your spiritual books, delve deeply into the science of yoga according to your own capacity and don’t waste precious time worrying about those things you can do nothing about. Worrying never helps anyone, nor can it change anything destined to occur. Action shapes destiny, and our actions that will subsequently shape our futures are always in our own hands. Make them count, let your voice be heard and stand up for truth and what is right. Follow your heart, for the heart will never lead you in the wrong direction. Namaste.

What about Edward Snowden?

With so much controversy and drama over the immediate fate of Edward Snowden, I managed to obtain his birth details and have a look at his Vedic horoscope. Edward was born on the 21st of June, 1983 at 4:42 AM in Elizabeth City, NC.
His ascendant is Taurus with Venus, lord of the ascendant, in the 3rd house of communications, writing and creativity. Mercury, the planet ruling communications of all kinds, is in the ascendant, ruling the 2nd house of earning, speech and family affairs, as well as the 5th house of intelligence, significance, educational capabilities, artistic development and more. The great benefic Jupiter is in the 7th house aspecting the ascendant. The first thing this chart shows is that he is sincere, forthright and not only extremely intelligent and creative, but the man believes in what he is doing.
Edward is not a man who lives for money, nor name and fame. He truly desires to be on the side of what is right or just, and not for any economic benefit whatsoever. As a matter of fact having Sun, Mars and Rahu in the 2nd house will alternate his financial life from feast to famine at regular intervals, depending on the periods he is in, of course, but it is not the chart of someone who acquires great financial wealth.
The Saturn/Moon conjunction in the 6th house indicates feeling distressed by so much impropriety by world leaders, and that they are in Libra indicates a man who is fair, balanced and thoughtful. With Saturn now in Libra (Edward’s Saturn return) and swiftly moving towards his natal Moon’s position (also putting him smack in the middle of his sade-sati!), a change of venue is imminent for him. But my feeling is that he will overcome the obstacles that lie in his path and find a way to get to the country he chooses to accept an asylum offer from.
Now also in the final third of his Saturn dasha, it was when the Rahu antardasha began in May of this year that he began to let loose with the information he had garnered about the NSA’s activities. The rest of this Rahu sub-period will be a bit crazy for him, and he will likely stay out of sight (and therefore harm’s way) as much as he possibly can. With Jupiter transiting Gemini presently he should be protected from those that wish to destroy him.
It seems highly unlikely to me that he will be arrested and extradited to the US, as he begins a really good period for 17 years ruled by Mercury in 2018. Were the authorities here to get a hold of him he would surely never see the light of day again, so I cannot see that happening.
The varshaphaal for 2013-14 indicates a lot of communications from him to the public, likely meaning many more revelations of dastardly “official” actions performed in the name of fighting terrorism. Although the Moon and the solar return chart’s muntha are in the 12th house, I do not see this as indicating incarceration. Looking at his 2014 solar return chart, as well, wherever he goes in this year is not likely to be his final stop.
So, what about Edward Snowden? Unknowingly, he was an important factor in what will bring about investigations, public outcries and much dissent, not just in the US, but all over the world. Expect this case to continue to bring new twists and turns, besides many new revelations, to add to the extremely turbulent second half of 2013.
