Self-Discovery: Letting the stars light the way… Jen Gordon Halfstack Media

Shaking up your astrological view!
You really aren’t alone … Every time you check your horoscope or discuss the meaning of life with your friends over a bottle of Pinot Noir. You, like many are looking for meaning and answers.

Even in ancient times, dating back as far as 15,000 to 20,000 years, we humans were interested in the meaning of existence and why we are here. Great studies and sciences have been developed to study our outer and inner worlds and how they relate to one another.

Are you interested in discovering more deeply about yourself and your place in this world? Maybe you have read spiritual books to help you learn more, or have purchased a psychic reading or tried meditation to navigate your way?

A very interesting spiritual tool that I came across recently is called Indian Astrology, also known as Jyotish, or what is referred to in our western world as Vedic astrology.
Vedic astrology originated from the Vedic Scriptures, it is a universal and timeless healing tool, and is known as one of the most time-tested and oldest systems of astrology in the world.

I learned of such a tool when I came across Vedic Astrologer, Howard Beckman, covering his extraordinary story of strength in a previous column. Howard overcame a heroin addiction, drug trafficking, and a 2.5 year Thai prison sentence to then move on and heal his life. Rising like a phoenix from the flames he transformed into a very gifted spiritual teacher.

I knew I personally had hit lows, but this guy had beaten even the toughest of odds …. I had to learn more about his teachings…

So, on a fall day at a busy Starbucks, I found a quiet corner and received a powerful and exciting Vedic Astrology reading from Howard. First, he began with a contextual and pertinent ‘overview’ of Vedic astrology.

He then quickly turned my astrological world upside down when I came to realize that in Vedic astrology I was an entirely different sun sign than I was taught to this point. And to top it off, I was a totally different moon sign too. Like astronomers, Vedic astrologers use actual astronomy as its basis.

I have to say, I loved this information! I had never really identified with my western astrological sign, and as Howard walked me through my different personality traits, gifts, as well as a few of my challenges, it really began to resonate.

Not only does Howard take you through the basics of “you” as you may or may not know it. He goes through your life time-line and points out pertinent energetic themes present. His insights act as almost a cosmic GPS or guidance system to help navigate the sequential segments of your life.

I found this to be extremely helpful in planning my future goals and dreams, and more importantly check if what I was thinking and feeling about my life was in line with what he saw. He offered suggestions about my health and diet that were also interesting and intuitive.

If you are curious about Vedic astrology, or you are looking for confirmation and answers about your path and the life path of those you love, make sure you look Howard Beckman up. He will turn your understanding of astrology upside down with an intuitive, powerful and helpful view into you and your world! Hope For The New Year 2016

It’s that time of year again. Here we are at the end of another year, which seems to have flown by, and getting ready for the next. We all hope for a good year ahead. “Good” to most means a comfortable living situation, no lacking in the necessities of life and opportunities for experiencing pleasure in our lives. Yet there’s an air of apprehension today.
The world is in turmoil and as every day passes we see more people displaced from their homes, forced to migrate into the unknown and all simply to find a situation where they can live peacefully, to find a home where they can have the opportunities in life that the multifarious warring parties have stolen from them.
Although I see a continuation of violence, both abroad, and within our borders to a lesser degree, the New Moon charts are giving me hope. The USA will certainly prevail this year. The political blood lust for power amongst the various parties will have our government flexing its muscles…with devastating consequences for those living in fear in war torn countries.
After all, it’s an election year. Both of the political parties must try to show the people that they are capable of bringing security to the population, both in terms of protection from terror and crime, as well as stimulating a sluggish economy.
Though the means that allows them to create an illusion of prosperity will have the result of scarcity down the road, the economy will indeed become stronger, at least in some sectors.
But the greatest hope that I see for 2016 is that I expect more and more people to question the dry, tasteless and unpalatable philosophy of “work harder, spend more money” and you will become happy. That’s what our leaders imply, don’t they? When the economy is churning along the news reporters tell us how great everything is, and when the economy is depressed we’re told to be afraid. Our happiness and distress depends on the state of the economy, pure and simple! That is what they would have us believe.
But anybody with the slightest bit of thoughtfulness will realize, if they carefully consider this unholy philosophy, that our inner hearts and minds can never be satisfied with “things”. But the bulk of the populace mindlessly and thoughtlessly accept this philosophy of life blaring at them through the television.
In this year more people are going to raise their heads out above the fog and ask themselves, their “higher” selves, for a better way. We will begin to see an ever-growing movement to retreat to a simpler lifestyle. As Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada said, “Simple living and higher thinking nurtures the path to both material satisfaction and spiritual realization.
The “Back to the Land” movement will grow exponentially in popularity as people begin to realize that this hard, unending struggle for existence in an environment that completely stress us out is not only unnecessary, but it reduces our life span, while it completely negates any bit of pleasure we might find along the way.
The pleasure and pain, happiness and distress, and ups and downs of our lives are the result of what we have “earned” in our previous “roles” in life. As Shakespeare said “All the world is a stage and all the people merely players”. Our identities outwardly change with each succeeding birth that we take in the world, but inwardly we are the same. Yet our true identity is covered.
So in this year I see that many persons are going to all of a sudden feel like they’ve awakened. As if they never really saw themselves and the world for what it truly is before. Those persons are going to begin their search for reality in great earnest. Churches and temples that are welcoming will find that more inquisitive seekers will cross their thresholds. Spiritual groups of all persuasion will see a resurgence in their membership.
This year holds an opportunity for us all. An opportunity to make changes in our lives, in our very consciousness, that will allow us to at least understand what we want in life and most importantly what we do NOT want. Knowledge, my friends, is what we all desire. Knowledge of ourselves, the universe and how to find that elusive state of consciousness called “peace of mind”. But to begin to find the truth we have to use all the tools at our disposal…and to stop accepting the material philosophy that is used to control our minds, and thus our very lives.
I will leave you with a word-for-word reprint of the very poignant words spoken in a movie called “Network” from 1976.

Howard Beale: I don’t have to tell you things are bad. Everybody knows things are bad. It’s a depression. Everybody’s out of work or scared of losing their job. The dollar buys a nickel’s worth, banks are going bust, shopkeepers keep a gun under the counter. Punks are running wild in the street and there’s nobody anywhere who seems to know what to do, and there’s no end to it. We know the air is unfit to breathe and our food is unfit to eat, and we sit watching our TV’s while some local newscaster tells us that today we had fifteen homicides and sixty-three violent crimes, as if that’s the way it’s supposed to be. We know things are bad – worse than bad. They’re crazy. It’s like everything everywhere is going crazy, so we don’t go out anymore. We sit in the house, and slowly the world we are living in is getting smaller, and all we say is, ‘Please, at least leave us alone in our living rooms. Let me have my toaster and my TV and my steel-belted radials and I won’t say anything. Just leave us alone.’ Well, I’m not gonna leave you alone. I want you to get mad! I don’t want you to protest. I don’t want you to riot – I don’t want you to write to your congressman because I wouldn’t know what to tell you to write. I don’t know what to do about the depression and the inflation and the Russians and the crime in the street. All I know is that first you’ve got to get mad. You’ve got to say, ‘I’m a HUMAN BEING, God damn it! My life has VALUE!’ So I want you to get up now. I want all of you to get up out of your chairs. I want you to get up right now and go to the window. Open it, and stick your head out, and yell, ‘I’M AS MAD AS HELL, AND I’M NOT GOING TO TAKE THIS ANYMORE!’ I want you to get up right now, sit up, go to your windows, open them and stick your head out and yell – ‘I’m as mad as hell and I’m not going to take this anymore!’ Things have got to change. But first, you’ve gotta get mad!… You’ve got to say, ‘I’m as mad as hell, and I’m not going to take this anymore!’ Then we’ll figure out what to do about the depression and the inflation and the oil crisis. But first get up out of your chairs, open the window, stick your head out, and yell, and say it: “I’M AS MAD AS HELL, AND I’M NOT GOING TO TAKE THIS ANYMORE!”

Arthur Jensen: You have meddled with the primal forces of nature, Mr. Beale, and I won’t have it! Is that clear? You think you’ve merely stopped a business deal. That is not the case! The Arabs have taken billions of dollars out of this country, and now they must put it back! It is ebb and flow, tidal gravity! It is ecological balance! You are an old man who thinks in terms of nations and peoples. There are no nations. There are no peoples. There are no Russians. There are no Arabs. There are no third worlds. There is no West. There is only one holistic system of systems, one vast and immane, interwoven, interacting, multivariate, multinational dominion of dollars. Petro-dollars, electro-dollars, multi-dollars, reichmarks, rins, rubles, pounds, and shekels. It is the international system of currency which determines the totality of life on this planet. That is the natural order of things today. That is the atomic and subatomic and galactic structure of things today! And YOU have meddled with the primal forces of nature, and YOU… WILL… ATONE! Am I getting through to you, Mr. Beale? You get up on your little twenty-one inch screen and howl about America and democracy. There is no America. There is no democracy. There is only IBM, and ITT, and AT&T, and DuPont, Dow, Union Carbide, and Exxon. Those are the nations of the world today. What do you think the Russians talk about in their councils of state, Karl Marx? They get out their linear programming charts, statistical decision theories, minimax solutions, and compute the price-cost probabilities of their transactions and investments, just like we do. We no longer live in a world of nations and ideologies, Mr. Beale. The world is a college of corporations, inexorably determined by the immutable bylaws of business. The world is a business, Mr. Beale. It has been since man crawled out of the slime. And our children will live, Mr. Beale, to see that… perfect world… in which there’s no war or famine, oppression or brutality. One vast and ecumenical holding company, for whom all men will work to serve a common profit, in which all men will hold a share of stock. All necessities provided, all anxieties tranquilized, all boredom amused. And I have chosen you, Mr. Beale, to preach this evangel.
Howard Beale: Why me?
Arthur Jensen: Because you’re on television, dummy. Sixty million people watch you every night of the week, Monday through Friday.

How we will fare in this year individually depends on our own personal circumstances. Whatever we’ve earned in life comes back to us, for that is the law of karma. But I see a great opening for those that want to find their inner hearts in this year. For anyone desiring to make a change in life, this is the time. Don’t wait any longer.

Have faith. With faith all things are possible. But we must listen very hard, strain our inner ear to hear the calling of our heart. And with knowledge of and faith in our destiny we can push forward. As Mahatma Gandhi once said, we can “be the change you wish to see in the world”.

Happy New Year

Happy Winter Solstice 2015

Doesn’t it seem like each year flies by just a little more quickly than the last one? The days are getting shorter and the nights are drawing in. Here we are closing in on the winter solstice and the Christmas and New Year holidays again, saying farewell to 2015, and ushering in our hopes for a better year ahead.
What a year it has been. Millions of refugees fleeing war torn countries and the constant threat of terrorists raging war, with no rules to go by. I know from my readings for clients throughout the year, it has also been a difficult year for many of you. This time always makes us think about the past year or years and what, perhaps, we could have done differently if we had had the chance. Whether or not we perceive the coming year as a good one will depend on our mental equilibrium, first and foremost. But of course our karma will determine what material facility avails itself to us, and what satisfaction we find in relationships and the unfolding of events. We are also subject to the global karma of the planet’s populace, shall we say, and the political turmoil trying to tear away at the very fabric of all societies worldwide.
I have not seen countries’ charts like those to come for 2016, indicating so many challenges that include great violence, destruction and loss of life caused completely by the actions of men, for many years. The economy won’t go under, but some are going to get hit pretty hard. Others are going to prosper. It must be obvious to all of you reading this that with the events unfolding in the middle east, and the backlash bringing terrorism to the doorsteps of both Americans and Europeans, that things are going to get a lot worse before they get better. And this war is, and shall be, the most insane of any ever to befall us in modern history.
If you have read my latest book “Tempting the Devil In The Name Of God”, you will know that I too have had my lows, but with steadfast spiritual knowledge and the help of Vedic Astrology I was able to survive, learn and grow from my experiences. Let me help you, as others have helped me in the past. A comprehensive astrological analysis is a phenomenal guide for making important decisions, be it in the coming year or years. We can have confidence in knowing that whatever life throws at us, the experience and wisdom given to us thousands of years ago by the very embodiment of wisdom, the seers and yogis of Ancient India, will give us forewarning so as to deal with it. Call, or email, me and we can set up an appointment.

Many have asked if I will post the New Moon charts for the US, UK and other countries after the New Year. My answer is that I do not plan to do so publicly, but in every single reading we will look carefully at what events I see transpiring and whether or not, or how much, you will be affected by these events.
We live in interesting times, and we’re just going to have to get used to it. For many it is time for a new path, or at least a new direction within the old one. Evaluate everything in your life and look for ways to improve your life, so that you may grow into the best possible version of your own self possible.
Remember that we always have hope. By looking forward to a brighter future, we develop enough faith in ourselves, and in the possibilities around us, to succeed in our worldly endeavors. And there’s nothing like a good dose of knowledge to give us an edge in making the right decisions to achieve our goals in life, learning to balance our material desires with our spiritual ones.
Happy Holidays to everyone and may you have the hope, faith and determination to create both material, and spiritual, prosperity in the coming year and always.
Howard “Hamsa” Beckman
